Chinese premier Wen Jiabao was the most recent in a long list of VVIPs who''ve come this way. Before this there have been rock stars, film personalities, politicians and statesmen, tycoons, royalty, senior spiritual leaders who need Z category security... All required highly specialised hospitality services and some had quirks that had to be catered to.

Anti-skid bathrooms: The Chinese premier, for instance, had very particular requests.
He wanted black leather bathroom slippers and not the regular ones given to VIP guests. Also, the bathroom had to be made anti-skid! Says Preeti Varma, public relations manager of the hotel that hosted him, "We put special mats on the floor with a marble finish so that it looked like the original flooring." Two Chinese chefs from the Embassy in New Delhi were flown in. The chefs had a separate work station, almost a mini kitchen and all raw ingredients as well as utensils were brought in from the embassy.

Preeti adds, "He ate only Chinese food and dinner was served at 6.30 pm. The temperature of his suite was fixed at 23.2 degrees celsius." Hotelier Anand Rao recalls that the previous Chinese premier who''d come to Bangalore a couple of years ago had also asked for the same temperature.

Prayer mats for the Malaysians: In December last year the Malaysian PM arrived with a huge delegation of about 100 people! He has his personal butler and everything that had to be served or given to him, had to be passed on to the butler. None of the hotel staff could interact with him directly.

Give us a massage: When the Putins dropped in, the first thing they wanted was an ayurvedic massage which was arranged within a hour. Putin''s wife wanted to wear a sari, watch a Bharatanatyam recital and eat an Indian meal. All this was arranged for her within two hours of the request being made.

Love my dog: An American family from California brought their dog along and the hotel chef whipped up a special menu for the animal every day for an entire week! Jiju, a Lhasa Apso ate hors d''ouvres, a main course and dessert.

High-security luxury: When Shah Rukh Khan was in town recently, he occupied the presidential suite of a hotel which has bullet-proof windows, silk upholstery and priceless antiques. The security measures make it fit even for a US president. The tariff is Rs 1 lakh per day. This was also where Benny Hinn and the Karmapa chose to spend their time in Bangalore.
